About the Tamil Calendar:
The Tamil Calendar is based on the earths movement around the Sun or the time taken by Sun to return to the same spot (as appeared from earth). The New Year is celebrated on the vernal equinox, which is the 14th of April in terms of the Gregorian Calendar.
